Jobs are at risk on daily basis, says SFA
Date: 3rd September 2010
Irish workers must continue in the knowledge that jobs are at risk at the country's small businesses on a daily basis, it has been claimed.
The Small Firms Association has described the situation as "uncontrollable" and called on the government to act.
It follows the publication of live register figures, which have revealed increasing unemployment across the country.
Avine McNally, acting director of the SFA, said: "The situation is getting uncontrollable, where is the government's plan to deal with the ever increasing job losses?
"The live register figures announced today are dismal. The increase to 455,000 in August, an increase of eight per cent in a year highlights the employment challenges that the economy faces and shows the weakness in our labour market."
Mr McNally added that small businesses have had their ability to create jobs "severely damaged" by a loss of competitiveness and rising cashflow difficulties.
