Road tax proposals slammed by SFA
Date: 27th August 2010
New road tax proposals concerning drivers of vans have been slammed by the Small Firms Association (SFA).
The organisation has described the plans, which would see local authorities force commercial and small van drivers to use the vehicles for domestic purposes, as "another nail in the coffin for small businesses".
According to the SFA, the plans are just another layer of bureaucracy, which make slight of the government's claims that it is supportive of the small business community.
Avine McNally, acting director of the SFA, commented: "Whilst the recent announcement of the cuts in current spending by the minister for finance are necessary, this is not an excuse for the various other departments to levy additional charges on the small business community.
"The government seem to forget that small firms are the backbone of the Irish economy, they are different and important – important because they create jobs and different because they are managed by people who are willing to take risks even in difficult times."
