Revenue clarifies VAT changes to education and training

The Finance Act 2015 amended the VAT exemption that applies to education and vocational training. Since then, there has been a lack of clarity as to how this change will affect the VAT treatment of a range of activities.

This led to various professional accountancy and tax bodies, along with numerous other lobby groups, to make submissions to The Revenue Commissioners to ensure there is better guidance for taxpayers as to whether or not they qualify for this VAT exemption.

At the end of April, Revenue published an updated manual which outlines Revenue’s view on what activities are and are not exempt, together with practical examples.

The VAT Tax and Duty Manual can be found here.
