Do I need to file a tax return?

There is a lot of talk at the moment about the approaching Tax Return deadline but do I need to file a return?

If you earn money that is not taxed through the PAYE system then you need to file a tax return by 31st October (or 12th November if you pay and file online).
 

Here are some of the circumstances where you need to file a return:

 
  • You are self-employed
  • You have rental income
  • You have investment income
  • You have foreign income including foreign pensions
  • You are paid maintenance payments
  • You are paid fees that are exempt from PAYE
  • You have profited from share options or share incentives
