Because most people have just paid their LPT for 2013 the timing of these letters is causing a lot of confusion. The letter is effectively asking you what way you want to pay for 2014 for example in one lump sum or by a phased payment method directly from your salary. At this point you need to tell Revenue what way you would like to pay. Two immediate deadlines are important. For those who wish to deal with the revenue commissioners on paper, the deadline for choosing a payment option is November 7th. For those who wish to go online the deadline for this option is November 27th.
If you choose to pay by credit or debit card you will have to fork out the charge in full this November. But if you decide to stump up the tax from your bank account, the money will only be taken on March 21.
Regardless of how you paid your local property tax in 2013, you can select an alternative payment method for 2014.
It is important that you look carefully at the figure on your letter and ensure that it is in line with the value you put on your home.
