Can I claim expenses when I host with Airbnb?

I rent my house out when I am away on business, can I claim back any expenses when I am doing my tax return?

10th September 2019

In general, yes you can deduct expenses directly related to the provision of accommodation for your guests.

This would include the fee paid to Airbnb themselves, cleaning and laundry fees, an apportionment of light & heat etc.

Revenue have targeted Airbnb hosts for noncompliance with the tax rules in recent years and it is vitally important that you only claim those expenses that you are entitled to deduct or you could end up with a Revenue inspection which may end up with revenue applying interest and penalties to any underpayment of tax.
